Newborn portraits taken within the first 2 weeks of the baby being born can be used for announcement cards and are a great keepsake. Every year I support the Walk for JDRF by forming my own team to walk at the Vancouver Zoo. This year I am a volunteer on the Fraser Valley Corporate Cabinet and I hope that you will support this worthwhile cause in one of the below ways.....

Nick and Kara were married on a beautiful August day at Mayfair Lakes Golf Course. So many special details went into the day and it could not have been more perfect. Kara teaches Irish Dancing and she and some of her friends treated the guests to a sample of their dancing. The Walk for JDRF was a success once again this year. We braved the warm sunny weather (not too hard to do) and walked around the Greater Vancouver Zoo on June 14th. Our team raised over $1000 and I couldn't be more proud. Here's a photo of our group and that's me in the middle :)

Trudy's Retirement

I had the honour of photographing the 2 day event to celebrate Trudy's retirement from Cloverdale Catholic. Trudy has been a principal here for 20 years and is so beloved by all of her students. The students held a Funday for her and all came in purple. Cotton Candy; games and dunk tanks were part of the festivities on this sunny June day. In the evening a special retirement party was held for Trudy and so many people said special words to her. I congratulate Trudy and wish her all the best in her happy retirement years.

Walk for JDRF

Each year I support JDRF either by riding a bike or doing the walk. Once again I will be participating in the Walk for a Cure for Diabetes on June 14th.

Over 240,000 Canadians have Type 1 diabetes. It is the leading cause of life-threatening and debilitating complications, such as blindness, end stage kidney disease, nerve damage, heart attack, stroke and even death. Due to research, children and adults are living longer than ever with a better quality of life.

Winter Soccer comes to an End

The last day my daughter's winter soccer league was today. The weather stayed sunny (but very cold) and the girls not only played some games but they were visited by some special guests....The Olympic mascots decided to stop by and greet all the kids. Another great soccer season ends and it is time for Spring League to begin!

When Bride & Groom become a Family

The neatest thing for a photographer is when you meet people and photograph their wedding and then you get to photograph the families they become. Here is an example of a family that were the very first wedding that I photographed 6 years ago. Now they have 2 adorarable kids and I loved that they came back to me and had some photos taken. During our hour session I captured 300+ images but here are a few that I really liked.

Why and How to Choose a Wedding Photographer?

I have been asked many times why a bride-to-be should choose a photographer for their wedding day. I usually provide the following advice:

- Your photographer should know how to look for the right location at the right time of day with the right background.
- Your photographer should have worked in many locations and under many diverse situations and should know how to adapt to anything that comes up on your hectic day. If it rains (which it does alot in vancouver) can they handle it?
- The wedding day is full of emotion and can be stressful, so a photographer should set your mind at ease by taking charge of your wedding pictures to smoothly and efficiently portray your day.
- Your photographer should have several examples of full day weddings that they have shot. Ask to see them and ask if you can contact those clients. Your photographer should be able to provide references.
- Meet several photographers and see if their style and personality will fit into your wedding day.

I have been married for 10 years this year and my wedding photos are still my most treasured item from the day (besides my husband). Have fun!

Coffee with Friends

One of the great things about doing what I do is that I get to meet some amazing people. I have also met some great photographers over the years! One great photographer that I have had a chance to get to know over the years is Audra. Today we met up for coffee to chat about photos; other wedding vendors and our kids. I have always loved Audra's photos and she even photographed my whole fun family in the summer. Thanks for the caw-fay chat today :)

We have had a pretty eventful month with the weather in our area! Christmas brought with it so much snow and by New Year's Eve; even my kids were getting tired of all the snow!

Then we enjoyed a period of sun; so we headed to the park....

Now today we had the buckets of rain! So outside we went for a rain walk!

No matter what the weather is...be a kid; head outside and enjoy it!

A friend of mine from High School decided to get some photos taken with his wife and new son. They braved the snow on December 21st and came out to Surrey to see me. I couldn't believe how much Milas looked like his daddy! It was a really fun photo shoot and Milas was a perfect little model.

The rain didn't dampen their spirits and later in the day the "Irish eyes were smiling" on Irishman Guy with a beautiful rainbow display! During the reception; Guy sang a beautiful song to Judy and everyone in the room was moved. I really enjoyed being a part of this wonderful couples special day!

I took engagement photos for Michelle & Chris in the Spring; and I was really looking forward to their wedding. The weather was warm and the rain held off (hooray!) The ceremony was in Bear Creek Park and we had so much fun taking photos at the train and mini golf course (Chris is a good sport). It could not have been a more perfect wedding! BC 150th Birthday Celebration! July 12, 2008

Clyde Duncan from the the Guyanese Canadian Cultural Association of BC asked me to take some photos of the Sir James Douglas statue dedication. This statue is a replica of the one in Fort Langley and it was being sent to Guyana (James Douglas birthplace). Afterwards an event at the Sheraton Guildford included Bangra dancers and Chinese Dragon dancers!

Kristi & Warren were worried about the rain on their big day, but the rain decided to stop just for them! We took some photos at Rocky Point Park and stopped for cocktails at the Boathouse (the bartenders made a special drink just for Kristi)! It was then off to the Vancouver Golf Club and it couldn't have been more special. I have included some of my favourite photos below. Congratulations to Warren & Kristi!

Douglas Day Parade in Fort Langley

Clyde Duncan from the Guyanese Canadian Cultural Association of BC contacted me to take some photos for the Douglas Day Parade on Nov 18th.
Clyde wanted to make sure that they had some photos to remember the celebrations which were honouring Sir Douglas. Did you know that James Douglas was BC's first Govenor and that he was born in Guyana? Next year marks the 100th birth of BC, and the parade at Fort Langley kicked off the celebrations that will be happening over the next year.

Thanks to Clyde to contacting me; I had a wonderful day. Here are a few of the photos from the day. You will see that the Lieutenant Governor: Steven Point was on hand to enjoy the festivities.

The weather was beautiful and seemed to be a perfect day to take some photos of the Froese & Green Family.
I had the pleasure of photographing the Green Family last year and they came back to get some more photos taken! They were so much fun and the kids had a great time throwing rocks into the water.

The Froese Family also had some photos taken at the beach. My friend Kevin designed my new website and I was honoured to take some photos of his family.

Sandy & John were married on beautiful Fall day. The weather could not have been better. Everyone in the wedding party was so much fun; including the two cute little flower girls. We took photos at Bear Creek Park and the gardens were spectacular!
John and Sandy are such wonderful people and really enjoyed photographing their day. I felt very welcome at the reception and had some wonderful conversations with some of the guests!

Lena & Kevin's Wedding: Sept 8

I met Lena & Kevin 1 week before their wedding. Lena was looking for a photographer and I was lucky enough to be available on her big day! The reception was at Horizon's restaurant on Burnaby mountain and saying it was amazing would be an understatement. The staff at Horizons were wonderful (including my aunt!) and I know Lena & Kevin could not have been more pleased. Lena looked so beautiful and truly looked like a model. She even tried out some of her Next Top Model poses for me. I had a great time with Lena, Kevin and all their guests. I know that they will have a fun-filled life together!

Lora & Sean's Wedding: Sept 1

Lora & Sean planned a wonderful wedding from afar (they live in Australia) and they did an amazing job! We started out with some photos at Stanley Park, and created quite a stir wherever the bride & groom went.

From the totem poles; to cricket on the lawn; to Prospect point; to riding on a tour bus; and finally to creating an "Abbey Road" moment; there was no end to the fun! It was then off to the Sunset Bay Yacht for the Ceremony & Reception. The staff were wonderful and the bride & groom were glowing!

I had a great time at Lora & Sean's wedding! Thanks for letting me be a part of your big day!

Rebecca & Stephen's Wedding: Aug 18

Rebecca & Stephen are such a cute couple. They look at each other and you can see they love that they have for each other. The wedding took place on a super sunny day (even though the weather has been poor this summer, the weather seemed to hold for all the weddings I was at). Rebecca's parents backyard was transformed into a beautiful ceremony site. The bride was gorgeous and her husband to be was grinning from ear to ear when he saw her. We headed to Queen's Park in New West for the reception and the facility was fabulous!

Natalie & Scott's Wedding: August 4th

Ok; so Natalie & Scott are 2 of the funnest people I have had the pleasure of photographing. The whole wedding party was a riot & I had such a great time. The wedding ceremony & reception were at Pitt Meadows Golf Course and it could not have been more perfect! If you are looking for a wedding site to book, this is a great choice. Julie is a great contact (I can pass on her name to you) and is very good at paying attention to details.
Natalie & Scott were married on a beautiful day and it was so warm out. They both couldn't keep their eyes off of each other and Scott even sang to Natalie with a barbershop quartet!
